Throughout this, he travels, paints, stays with the country aristocracy, visits brothels, is a popular if anarchic member of the Royal Academy of Arts, has himself strapped to the mast of a ship so that he can paint a snowstorm, and is both celebrated and reviled by the public and by royalty..

Name : Bill Zwecker / Alias : Chicago Sun-Times
I can't say enough about the power of Spall's performance.

Name : Michael Phillips / Alias : Chicago Tribune
Without a speck of pomposity Leigh's film - one of the year's best - honors its subject in all his tetchy ambiguity.

Name : Keith Staskiewicz / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
To use a word often associated with Turner and his art, it's sublime.

Name : Dana Stevens / Alias : Slate
Writing about Mr. Turner a few weeks after seeing it, I feel a craving to be again immersed in its world, which is rich with colors, textures, and, it sometimes almost seems, smells .

Name : Leslie Felperin / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
Mr. Turner manages to illuminate that nexus between biography and art with elegant understatement.

Name : A.A. Dowd / Alias : AV Club
A portrait of the artist as visionary oddball, for whom life was an endless source of both beauty and the irritating distractions blocking his view of said beauty.

Name : Joe Morgenstern / Alias : Wall Street Journal
Any expectations of reverential biography are quickly dispelled by Mr. Leigh's sharp, scintillating script and Mr. Spall's uncanny daring.

Name : Sasha Stone / Alias : TheWrap
As is usual with any Mike Leigh film - a style unique and trademarked by now - his ensemble is a collection of remarkably adept actors who know their characters so well they could stay in character for weeks, continually improvising, as they often do.

Name : Peter Howell / Alias : Toronto Star
Keen observer Mike Leigh brings his hawk's eye to a vibrant rendering of J.M.W. Turner, the celebrated British "painter of light."

Name : Elizabeth Weitzman / Alias : New York Daily News
Leigh and lead Timothy Spall make full use of their canvas, creating a sprawling portrayal of a wonderfully messy personality.

Name : Liam Lacey / Alias : Globe and Mail
The gap between the celestial art of the great English romantic painter Joseph Mallord William Turner and the brutish details of his life is vividly explored in Mike Leigh's tragicomic movie Mr. Turner.

Name : Andrew O'Hehir / Alias : Salon.com
"Mr. Turner" is a rich, ruthless and profoundly compassionate study of life and love and art, for those who find themselves on its wavelength, but it also presents itself as a challenge.

Name : Scott Foundas / Alias : Variety
Mike Leigh takes on the topsy-turvy life of J.M.W. Turner in an exquisitely detailed, brilliantly acted biopic.

Name : J. R. Jones / Alias : Chicago Reader
Timothy Spall gives an admirably warty and unpleasant performance as Turner, an arrogant and uncompromising man who's annoyed by his celebrity in Britain but shocked when the public turns against his work.

Name : Kenneth Turan / Alias : Los Angeles Times
J.M.W. Turner, arguably the greatest of British painters, was an uncommonly difficult man, and "Mr. Turner," the exceptional film Mike Leigh has made about him, does not do things the easy way either.

Name : Bob Mondello / Alias : NPR
Spall may make a grotesque of Turner - piggish, rutting, whoring - but he finds such incandescence in the world around him. And director Mike Leigh lets you see that incandescence as Turner saw it: Everywhere.

Name : David Denby / Alias : New Yorker
"Mr. Turner" is a harsh, strange, but stirring movie, no more a conventional artist's bio-pic than Robert Altman's wonderful, little-seen film about van Gogh and his brother, "Vincent and Theo."

Name : Claudia Puig / Alias : USA Today
The sprawling, loosely structured 2 1/2 hour drama has some of the year's most stunning visuals, many of which appear as artfully composed scenes in Turner's work.

Name : Lou Lumenick / Alias : New York Post
Timothy Spall - best known to mainstream audiences as Wormtail in the Harry Potter series - delivers an Oscar-caliber tour de force reminiscent of Charles Laughton

Name : Mick LaSalle / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
Failure isn't only the province of the lazy and uninspired. No, even the gifted and conscientious must occasionally take a stroll through that blasted landscape, and with Mr. Turner Leigh does it, for 2 1/2 hours. Don't go with him.

Name : Richard Corliss / Alias : TIME Magazine
Epic in breadth and length (2 1/2 hours), and gorgeously photographed (digitally) by Bill Pope, Mr. Turner is intimate in incident.

Name : A.O. Scott / Alias : New York Times
"Mr. Turner" is a mighty work of critical imagination, a loving, unsentimental portrait of a rare creative soul.

Name : Katie Kilkenny / Alias : The Atlantic
A gorgeous, important film.

Name : Peter Rainer / Alias : Christian Science Monitor
It's a painfully uneven movie, but its best moments are ravishingly good.

Name : David Edelstein / Alias : New York Magazine/Vulture
With his incomparable Mr. Turner, Mike Leigh continues to make other directors look simpleminded.

Name : Stephen Whitty / Alias : Newark Star-Ledger
It's not a pretty portrait of the artist. But it is a real one.

Name : Stephanie Zacharek / Alias : Village Voice
This is less your standard-issue biopic than a foray into the mystery of human feeling.

Name : Colin Covert / Alias : Minneapolis Star Tribune
"Mr. Turner" is a rich portrait of England at a particularly scabrous period.

Name : Ann Hornaday / Alias : Washington Post
Despite his own failings and faults, Leigh and Spall's Turner is a man consumed by the search for truth and beauty, even in the midst of the less than pretty truths of his times.

Name : Dave Calhoun / Alias : Time Out
Timothy Spall - a veteran of Mike Leigh's films - plays this eccentric, determined London bohemian like a bronchial, cantankerous, randy old toad with backache.

Name : Peter Travers / Alias : Rolling Stone
Leigh shows us the world as Turner sees it-harsh and ravishing. His beauty of a movie touches the heart not by sentimental gush but by the amplitude of its art.

Name : Rex Reed / Alias : New York Observer
A vacuous endurance test about an abstract loser.

Comment For Nerve Full Movie Film

Name : Justin Lowe / Alias : Hollywood Reporter
With its attractive young cast and a multiplatform media campaign, Nerve won't need to rely on going viral to find its audience, but it's unlikely to be trending for long once viewers digest its simplistically cautionary message.

Name : James Berardinelli / Alias : ReelViews
Joost and Schulman use nearly every trick imaginable to keep Nerve's energy at a consistently high level and to give it a visual uniqueness.

Name : Ty Burr / Alias : Boston Globe
For about 45 minutes, the movie's engrossing fluff, a stylish cautionary cyber-tale aimed primarily at teenage girls.

Name : Nick Patch / Alias : Toronto Star
Like one of its daredevils hanging one-handed from skyscraper scaffolding, Nerve mostly manages to maintain its precarious balance of pulpy suspense and social commentary.

Name : David Ehrlich / Alias : indieWIRE
Blisteringly cool one moment and ridiculously silly the next, this punchy and propulsive late summer surprise is able to capture the way we live now because it displays such a vivid understanding of the reasons why we live that way.

Name : Adam Graham / Alias : Detroit News
"Nerve" is sharp looking and delivers real jolts, even if the climax pushes things a bit far and wraps up too easily. Or maybe it's an accurate look at what'll happen when "Nerve" becomes real?

Name : Rafer Guzman / Alias : Newsday
An enjoyable teen flick about the glamour and danger of the internet.

Name : Mick LaSalle / Alias : San Francisco Chronicle
A successful and memorable thriller.

Name : Stephanie Merry / Alias : Washington Post
Not only does it uncannily evoke the feelings of awkwardness, alienation and excitement that come with being a teenager, but it conjures the kind of suspense that will give your armrests a workout.

Name : Alan Scherstuhl / Alias : Village Voice
The city and the plot points wheel right by, the leads fetchingly entranced with each other. If one patch of dares disappoints, there's another coming right up, and the directors stage and shoot them with swooning neon kinecticism.

Name : Peter Travers / Alias : Rolling Stone
It gets off on the highwire fun of living on a digital dare and then pisses away its provocations by lecturing us with a metaphorical take on social media as an STD. What a buzz kill.

Name : Matthew Lickona / Alias : San Diego Reader
If it collapses in the end by going dark and also bonkers and bringing in hackers ex machina to clean up its mess, well, directors Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost can say they did it for the feels.

Name : Owen Gleiberman / Alias : Variety
"Nerve," let's be clear, isn't a movie to take seriously, yet its fast lunge at topicality - the way it uses the contest at its center as a lightning-rod metaphor for how young adults interact in the digital age - is part of what's fun about it.

Name : Allen Salkin / Alias : New York Daily News
Clever, exciting, sweet and full of quick twists that never devolve from serving a well-built story.

Name : Kevin P. Sullivan / Alias : Entertainment Weekly
The perils of social media may be ripe for the after-school-special treatment, but less expectedly, they make for a half-decent Hunger Games riff.

Name : Alison Willmore / Alias : BuzzFeed News
Nerve is a dizzyingly of-the-moment good time, a dystopian meet-cute in present-day New York.

Name : Leah Pickett / Alias : Chicago Reader
The film has a fatal messaging problem: it lambasts online group-think and "hiding behind screen names" while also glamorizing the game.

Name : Amy Nicholson / Alias : MTV
Nerve knows we're all playing the game.

Name : Tirdad Derakhshani / Alias : Philadelphia Inquirer
Nerve gives moviegoers everything they'd want from a teen romance. It's a little less successful as a critique of life in the age of Instagram.

Name : Katie Walsh / Alias : Los Angeles Times
"Mr. Robot" meets "Battle Royale". a neon-saturated teenage dream, high on first kisses and digital hearts.

Name : Bill Goodykoontz / Alias : Arizona Republic
It comes off like a combination of "The Hunger Games," "Saw" and Pokemon Go. Maybe that sounds like a good thing. It's not.

Name : Brad Wheeler / Alias : Globe and Mail
Nerve looks fabulous and the pace is evenly adrenalized, which makes up for cliched characters, a concocted premise and commentary that is a bit on the nose .

Name : A.A. Dowd / Alias : AV Club
Bright, brisk, and enjoyably silly .

Name : Jeannette Catsoulis / Alias : New York Times
[The] screenplay . amounts to little more than a string of flashy stunts before fizzling to a contrived close. For all its hints at imminent catastrophe, "Nerve" feels surprisingly tame.

Name : Kyle Smith / Alias : New York Post
The sharpest, wildest and most unpredictable thriller I've seen this year .

Name : Anna Smith / Alias : Time Out
Other films - including David Fincher's The Game (1997) - have done this better, but with its engaging story, energetic soundtrack and slick production values, Nerve is an easy watch for restless young minds.

Name : Moira MacDonald / Alias : Seattle Times
Franco grins diabolically throughout, and Roberts sounds a bit like a junior version of Sarah Jessica Parker's "Sex and the City" character . otherwise, they're awfully bland, and it's hard to get too invested in their fate.

Name : Alonso Duralde / Alias : TheWrap
While the film's vertiginous set pieces are appropriately heart-clenching, it's not nearly as successful at little details like plot and character.

Name : Richard Roeper / Alias : Chicago Sun-Times
Emma Roberts and Dave Franco are just fine, but there's no huge onscreen spark between them. Most of the supporting roles are thinly drawn and forgettable.

Name : Odie Henderson / Alias : RogerEbert.com
Part of me screamed for this film to get off my lawn, but an even bigger part of me succumbed to playing by its rules. Nerve is too much fun to stay mad at for long.
